A unique 19th century property

Home of a well established family on the island of Madeira. This estate is part of the great inheritance of João José Rodrigues Leitão, the Viscount of Cacongo. The Quinta was once a prosperous agricultural property, stretching from Choupana, up in the hills, right down to the coast, where vineyards and banana trees were cultivated.

In 1990 the buildings around the old wine press were converted into holiday apartments and, for the first time, the family has opened the doors of this historical property to welcome guests from all around the world.

Since then, the success of the Garden Village has grown year by year, with visitors from all corners of the world returning every year to the rare opportunity of experiencing the lifestyle of a historical Madeiran Quinta, with all the comforts of today’s modern living.

Bed linen & Towels

All apartments are provided with linen, towels, and pool towels. Linen is changed once a week and towels twice a week. Extra changes may be provided at a nominal fee.

Cleaning Service

Cleaning is included in the daily rate, every other day, except on Sundays (three times per week). Extra cleaning may be provided at a nominal fee.

Laundry Service

We offer a laundry service at a nominal fee. Should you require this, please place all your washing in a plastic bag and leave it in your apartment together with a laundry slip.

Breakfast Basket

A picnic breakfast is available on request and can be personalised upon your arrival, and brought to your apartment every morning. The price per person is 9.00 euros.

Wi-Fi

We have increased our internet bandwidth & speed to make sure you have a great connection at all times, both in your apartment as well as in all communal areas.

Telephone & Cable TV

All apartments are equipped with a television and a direct telephone line for your best comfort.

Safes

Inside your bedroom?s wardrobe is installed a safe where you can store your most valuable items. Its key is in your key ring.

Family-friendly Amenities

Should you need it, we may also provide a myriad of complimentary household items such as irons and iron boards, heaters, cots, and high-chairs for your children.

Selection of Beverages

For your convenience, a selection of wines and other beverages are for sale at our reception, during office hours.

Activities & Services

At our reception, you may as well request the booking of a myriad of transport and touristic animation services from our local partners.

Spa Therapy

If you wish to have a massage in your apartment or on the terrace overlooking the sea, you can book this service directly at the reception.

Yoga Lessons

We now have private yoga lessons for guests on the grounds of the Quinta. If you wish to book a private or group lesson, contact our reception to request it.

Teresa Jardim Gedge

Proprietor

Best known as Teresinha, is the 5th generation descendant of João José Rodrigues Leitão, oncle of the 1st Viscount of Cacongo, who occupies the main house as her residence. Teresa founded the Madeira Arts and Dramatic Society – MADS, a local theatre group whose members come from all parts of the world.

Marina Jardim Huber

General Manager

Marina is the oldest daughter of Teresa Gedge. Half Portuguese, half Swiss, and educated in England, Marina has successfully for the past 20 years held the demanding task of keeping everything running smoothly at the Quinta. Feel free to meet her at the Quinta’s office, and she will always welcome you with a joyful heart!

Luisa Jardim Camacho

Financial Department

Luisa is also the daughter of Teresa Gedge and an English teacher at a local language school. Besides helping in the Financial Department of the Quinta, she is also the best party planner in town. You will surely be infected by her youthful energy, and you just might be lucky enough to be invited to one of her awesome parties!

Advisor & Project Development

Representing the youngest generation of the Family is Rosie, the daughter of Marina. This hardworking young lady has been backstage for advising and helping the family business give a helping for innovation projects and business partnerships, while working at the Madeira Promotion Bureau.
